Names Worn by Cinderella
"Cinderella" is a famous fairy tale with several international variations. The most well known is Charles Perrault's Cendrillon, which came out in 1697. The Brothers Grimm's Aschenputtel came along in 1812. The tale has been retold several times since.
The original story did not give Cinderella a real name. Yet, recent retellings, such as Disney's 2015 live action remake and the 2021 Amazon Prime musical suggest that her real name is Ella. However, storytellers have also given Cinderella other names.
Angelina
Angelina is the hero in Gioachino Rossini's nineteenth-century opera La Cenerentola, which is based on the Cinderella story.
Ashley
Ashley is Cinderella's Storybooke counterpart in the ABC series Once Upon a Time.
Bella
Diane Stanley wrote a children's Cinderella novel entitled Bella at Midnight in 2006. While the protagonist's real name is Isabel, she goes by Bella.
Cinder
Marissa Meyer renamed the character Cinder in her science fiction adaptation of the same name. Cinder works as a mechanic in the futuristic city of New Beijing.
Cindy
Cindy is the heroine of the 1978 TV film of the same name. She desires to marry an army officer.

As stated above, many adaptations suggest that this is Cinderella's real name. Gail Carson Levine's Ella Enchanted, the 2006 CGI fairy tale movie Happily N'Ever After, the 2015 live-action Disney remake, the 2018 CGI movie Cinderella and the Secret Prince, and the 2021 musical starring Camila Cabello are all examples.
Elle
Elle is the main character in the 2010 teen musical film Elle: A Modern Cinderella Tale. She moves in with her uncle and works for his company after losing her parents in a plane crash. Along the way, Elle dreams of becoming a famous singer.
Ember
Tessonja Odette renamed Cinderella Ember Montgomery in her book Heart of the Raven Prince, which is part of her fairy tale series Entangled with Fae. As in other retellings, Ember desires to escape her stepfamily and falls in love with a prince.
Indy
Indy is the protagonist in the 2018 film Not Cinderella's Type. In that version, Indy lives with cruel relatives instead of a stepfamily.
Katherine
Katherine "Kat" is the star of the 2019 movie A Cinderella Story: Christmas Work. Kat works at a Christmas theme park hoping to move out of her stepfamily's home.
Margaret
Cinderella is Margaret in the 1955 German adaptation of the tale.
Marie
The 2010 German-language movie adaptation of Aschenputtel named their main character Marie.
Mary
Mary, played by Selena Gomez in Another Cinderella Story, gets adopted by her late mother's dance instructor and gets the treatment of a slave. Yet, Mary dreams of becoming a dancer.
Samantha
Cinderella is Samantha "Sam", played by Hilary Duff in the 2004 movie A Cinderella Story. Sam works at her stepmother's diner and plans to meet her pen pal at a Halloween dance.
