Top 100 Contemporary Girls' Word Names

Word names have been in use among girls for centuries. Classic Grace and Rose emerged before the Renaissance. The Puritans then adopted Faith and Hope. The nineteenth century gave us Ivy and Pearl. This realm has since expanded to musical terms, tree/bush names, and more. 

Today I list the top 100 contemporary word names that stem from expanding possibilities. To qualify as a word name, it must appear as an improper noun, verb, or adjective in a dictionary.

I could be wrong about some of the names above being contemporary. It's sometimes hard to tell whether a name counts as traditional or contemporary, especially if a name has existed in the past but never ranked within the top 500 or if a name entered the charts after 1970 but is declining in use. However, I used my knowledge of current and past trends to identify the names I think are contemporary.

In the Northern Hemisphere, there is a common broadleaf tree. It produces nuts with a certain shade of brown. The tree and nut have one name in common: Hazel. The nature name, which derives from the Old English hæsel , has been in sparing use as a unisex name between the late 1700s and early 1800s. There are several names mentioned in the Bible, but only those associated with one prominent character and with complete usability will count.
