Predicted Top 100 Girls' Names 2024
With the new name data from the Social Security Administration coming out this Friday, it is time to make predictions once again.
This year, I think six girls' names will leave the top 100:
- Aaliyah has been a top 100 hit since 2001 and is at her lowest point since 2007. She dropped 17 spots from #69 to #86 in 2023; dropping the same amount will retire her. As with Neveah, she has the markings of a "fad" name via her creative spelling and high top 1000 debut (in the 200s). If Nevaeh has gone, so will Aaliyah.
- Allison, previously ranking in the top 100 between 1974 and 2021, returned for one more year. She may be a modern classic spanning multiple generations, but there are fresher choices out there.
- Ariana has been a top 100 favorite since 2001 and is at her lowest point since then. Spelling variant Arianna has come and gone since then. She dropped six spots in 2023 to #96; dropping six more spots will get her out. Ariana sounds slightly dated, so it's about time.
- Hailey has been a top 100 hit since 1996 and is at her lowest point since 1997. She dropped 10 places to #90 in 2023; dropping just 11 places can get her out. As with Ariana, dated Hailey has run her course.
- Natalia has consistently ranked in the top 100 since 2020, but has fallen 16 spots to #95. With Natalie also declining, it's probably time for the similar Natalia to go. Other than her international charm, there's not much going for Natalia. She was a top 100 pick in 2004 and 2010, too.
- Savannah has ranked in the top 100 for over 30 years and is at her lowest point since 1994. She dropped 16 spots from #76 to #92 in 2023, giving her a high chance of dropping out in 2024. Savannah has run her course, and parents are seeking fresher alternatives.
Replacing these names are six new ones, which I predict will be:
- Daisy jumped 15 spots from #125 to #110 in 2023. Her initial top 100 run through 1908 makes it time for a revival. After a few decades in the 100s, and ranking at her highest since 1996, the flower name/nickname combo might finally be popular again.
- Georgia is another top 100 favorite from the 1800s and early 1900s due for revival. Having jumped 35 spots to #128 in 2023, her return to the top is around the corner. Georgia also serves as an alternative to Charlotte and Nora alongside having one dominant spelling.
- Josie jumped 12 spots from #120 to #108; jumping just ten more can make her popular. Josie is a nickname for Josephine, as well as an alternative to Lucy and Sophie (despite her nickname roots).
- Lucia jumped 17 spots from #126 to #109 in 2023, poising her for the top 100. With Luna in the top 10 and Lucy and Maria on the rise, Lucia fits in. Plus, she crosses languages, a factor many modern parents seek.
- Melody has been gradually rising over the past few decades and jumped six spots to #103 in 2023. Just three spots can get her in the top 100 for the first time. She is a modern classic with the musical vibe of Aria.
- Millie jumped 26 spots to #102 in 2023; jumping the same amount will land her in the top 100. She can easily be an Ellie alternative and an Amelia nickname, getting many parents on board.
