Predicted Top 100 Boys' Names 2022

The new name data comes out the Friday before Mother's Day nearly every year (it was postponed to September in 2020). I have recently predicted the new top 100 girls' names in preparation for that event. Now I move on to the boys' names.

Plenty of names entered the boys' top 100 last year and I think the same will happen this year. Here are the names I think will become popular:

  • August-August has associated itself with many celebrity babies over the last years, including those of Princess Eugenie and Mandy Moore. It is also a vintage name that rose 34 spots to the 120s.
  • Emmett-Emma has been popular for girls for decades. With the trend for double-"t" names like Wyatt and Bennett, Emmett fits in.
  • River-River has the unisex style and "er" ending modern parents love. It jumped 19 spots in rank last year. Hence, rising by just 10 spots can make it popular.
  • Rowan-With Celtic names like Liam being popular and the trend for unisex and tree names, Rowan has the ingredients to be popular. It also has only six spots to rise.
  • Walker-Walker continues the trend of surname-names ending in "er" such as Carter and Parker. It also jumped over 77 spots last year to #129, so it can easily enter the top 100 this year.
Here are the names I think will leave this year:
  • Austin-Austin has been in the top 100 since 1986, so it is about time for this dated choice to leave. It also has been declining slowly since 1999.
  • Carson-This surname-name has been in the top 100 for over 20 years and dropped 14 spots to #98 last year. Hence, even a three-spot fall will take this out.
  • Connor-A top 100 name since 1992, this Celtic choice no longer feels fresh. It also fell nearly 20 spots to #96 last year.
  • Dominic-This name still fits in style-wise, but it is nearing out of the top 100 after 20 years of popularity.
  • Hunter-Hunter has been declining since 2014 and had its biggest drop of 18 spots to #86 last year.
