10 Names that Made 2022

With 2022 coming to a close, it's time to reflect on the names that defined this year. Most of these names come from notable pop culture references or famous people. 

Anyway, here are ten names that defined this year:

Bruno

The song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Disney's Encanto topped the charts when 2022 started. 

Edwina

This feminization of Edwin associated itself with Edwina, Kate Sharma's sister from the second season of Netflix's Bridgerton. 

Guillermo

Guillermo de Toro released his stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio late this year. It has been the most well-received take on the puppet's story since Disney's 1940 film. 

Harry

Harry Style's song, "As It Was" became a popular hit in 2022.

Kamala

Kamala Khan is the titular character in the recent Disney Plus series, Ms. Marvel. The series introduced a young female superhero to the Marvel canon. 

Lavender

"Lavender Haze" is one of Taylor Swift's new songs from her album, Midnights. 

Matilda

The Netflix musical came out this month. It could give this rising vintage gem a greater boost. 

Ozzie

New Zealand stylist Kara and Australian actor Luke Cook named their son Ozzie Alexander in November. This nickname has an old man vibe but it's also gaining traction for girls.  

Theodore

This timeless classic made headlines when it shot from the 20s to the top 10. 

Wednesday

Wednesday Addams stars in her own Netflix series, which has become a popular hit since its release.

Predicted Top 100 Girls' Names 2022

With the new name data coming out this Friday, it is time to predict the popular names once again.  I will begin with the girls' top 100. There have been few changes last year, but I expect more to happen this year. Here are the names I think will enter the top 100: Eloise -Eloise does not just fit in our era of "el" names, but its kidlit connections also makes this today's Madeline. It rose nearly 30 spots last year to #109, so it will take under 10 spots to make this popular. Iris -Iris is a goddess name in the key of Luna and Aurora and a vintage nature name like Hazel and Ivy. It has also risen 20 spots to #107 last year. Maeve -This has risen from the 170s all the way to the 120s last year under the influence of the television series Sex Education . Rising just 25 more spots will make this popular.
