Future Top 100 Girls' Names

A few years ago, I explained some girls' names that could make the top 100 this decade. Now that I know more about trends, though, I am going to do an update.

Today I will list several girls' names that have generally risen over the last five years and have the ingredients of a top 100 name. This is no guarantee that all these names will become popular, but they most likely will.

Ada

Ada was popular a century ago and is coming back today. With so many three-letter girls' names in the top 100, including Ava, Mia, Zoe, and Eva; alongside long "a" names like Hazel and Sadie, Ada easily fits in.

Blake

Unisex surnames with the long "a" sound, including Avery and Peyton, have been popular lately. Blake is likely to follow.

Blakely

Blakely twists the "aylee" name trend of the 2000s. Plus, it elaborates on Blake like Everly elaborates on Eve. It has the creative feel of Kinsley as well.

Cecilia

Cecilia has a style similar to that of top 10 picks Olivia and Sophia, timeless and lacy.

Eliza

This classic short form of Elizabeth has been in the spotlight thanks to Hamilton. It is rising slowly, but could still return to the top 100 since it was there once.

Eloise

Kidlit icon Eloise could be the next Madeline. It connects to the six-year-old girl from Kay Thompson's book series. Plus, Eloise shortens to popular nickname "Ellie" and is fun to say.

Elsie

Ellie is among the most popular nicknames for girls. The similar-sounding Elsie is following.

Genevieve

Genevieve has risen rather slowly, but it still has top 100 potential. It ranked in the top 100 a century ago, after all. If French classics Charlotte and Josephine and fun-to-say elaborations Everly and Penelope could all rank in the top 100, why not Genevieve?

Georgia

This slow-rising classic has a lot in common with current top 100 picks. It is a southern place name, like Charlotte. It is also a feminization of a male name, like Josephine, and has a near-similar sound to Cora and Nora.

Iris

Ivy entered the top 100 in 2018. Plus, nature names and mythological names are both having a moment. Being both a flower and a goddess, Ivy's soundalike Iris could be in the top 100 next year.

June

Several vintage nature names returned to the top 100 this past decade. These include Violet, Ruby, and Hazel. June, which has the same "oo" sound as Ruby, is next in line.

Juniper

Juniper elaborates on June as Everly does on Eve. It is also a tree name, like Hazel and Willow, and has the "per" ending of Harper and Piper.

Kehlani

Leilani made the top 100 in 2020. Kehlani could be the next Hawaiian name to enter. It has something in common with Kinsley and Kennedy, too.

Maeve

Maeve does not sound too different from former favorites Faith and Paige and current choices Grace and Jade. Plus, Irish names for girls, including Nora and Riley, are reaching new heights. Maeve's "v" sound makes it extra stylish.

Oakley

Oakley has the rustic vibe of Paisley and a similar structure to fellow surname-name Ashley, making it a perfect update.

Olive

Olive is similar in structure to Alice. Plus, it has a similar background to Hazel: a color, tree, and food name. This vintage name also works as an Olivia alternative.

Ophelia

Shakespearean Ophelia has a similar structure to Olivia, Sophia, and Amelia. It fits in with Gothic Delilah and Ivy, too.

Parker

Unisex surnames are in full swing right now. Parker could become the next Peyton or Riley because its sound resembles that of popular surname-names Harper and Piper. The "ar" sound has also been present in many popular names.

River

River mixes the trendy middle "v" sound with the popular "er" ending. It is a nature name, too.

Rose

This does not seem to be rising as fast as I'd like. This classic is a former top 100 hit, though, so it should be back soon.

Ruth

The legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg is inspiring more parents to choose this Biblical classic. It shares its "oo" sound with the also-classic Lucy.

Vera

Vera has the "v-a" sound pattern of Ava, Nova, and Eva along with the last two letters of Nora and Cora. It is a vintage name making a comeback, too.

Wren

Wren is a modern nature name connecting to a bird. It also has the single syllable of Jade and the first letter of Willow.

Which of these names do you think will hit the top 100?
