The Top 100 Boys' Names 2021
A few days ago I discussed the new top 100 girls' names of 2021. Today I discuss the boys' names.
This year, four names left the boys' top 100. These names are:
- Jaxson dropped from #85 to #101 after eight years in the top 100. I initially did not expect this trendy re-spelling of Jaxson to drop, but Jackson and variants have been popular for a while.
- Jace dropped from #96 to #102. It sounds dated as the first syllable of Jason even though it did not enter the top 100 until 2012. Jace has also been declining lately. Thus, I expected this one to leave.
- Adam fell from #96 to #104. I expected this classic to leave. It entered the top 100 in 1970 and reigned for an impressive 51 years. Even as it declines, though, Adam will remain timeless.
- Kayden finally dropped down to #108 after hanging onto the fringes for years. Kayden was first popular from 2012 to 2015 and again from 2017 to 2020. Names ending in "ayden" are declining, so I expected Kayden to leave.
At the same time, three new names entered the boys' top 100. Here are the names that entered:
- Beau jumped from #109 to #94, as I expected. Beau is a Southern name that's proving itself to be the male counterpart of Scarlett-in use since the mid-twentieth century, but never popular until now.
- Bennett rose from #101 to #90. As with Beau, I expected Bennett to enter the top 100 because it's been rising lately. Bennett has the first syllable of top 10 classic Benjamin as well as the structure and ending of Wyatt.
- Waylon went from #103 all the way to #69-a much larger jump than I expected. Waylon is similar in rustic style to Maverick and Wyatt along with having country singer vibes via Waylon Jennings.
- Weston jumped from #104 to #95. I did not expect this to enter the top 100 because it has not been rising that much lately. Yet, I was wrong. Weston mixes the sounds of Wesley and Easton and has a rustic feel. These are all ingredients for a top 100 boys' name.
Unlike the girls' names, I expected all the new top 100 boys' names to enter. There was only one name I did not expect to enter and one name I did not expect to leave.
I guessed 11 out of 100 boys' names correct. Here is the new top 100 boys' names, with my predicted names next to them.
