Future Top 100 Girls' Names (Based on Trends)

I haven't done a weekly name post this week because I feel like my posts aren't of the highest quality. I am currently doing more research to improve them. Expect to see my next name page within a week.

For now, I'm thinking about name trends. First, I'm focusing on the girls. All the names listed below rank within the current top 400. Here are the kinds of names that will likely hit the top over the next decade according to the current girls' top 100:

DOUBLE-"A"S (Ava, Amelia, Aria, Aurora, Anna, Ariana, Arya):

  • Athena (#105)-Athena has the same mythological roots as Aurora and the ending of Elena. This is bound to hit the top 100 in 2020.
  • Amara (#140)-Amara, like Athena, sounds like an alternative to Aurora. It also combines the sounds of antique classics Amelia and Clara. It could hit the top 100 within the next two years.
  • Anastasia (#150)-Anastasia dropped slightly in 2019, but it's still headed towards the top 100. Its elaborate structure and legendary background makes it a sister for Penelope.
  • Alina (#156)-If Elena's already in the top 100 and Athena is headed there, could Alina follow?
  • Ayla (#162)-Ayla's a recent new addition to the UK top 100. It is also the ending of Layla that could be pronounced like Isla. Hence, Ayla makes a perfect candidate for the 2020s top 100.
  • Alaia (#183)-Alaia jumped over 400 spots in 2019. Hence, it's definitely going to break the 2020 top 100.
  • Arabella (#197)-Arabella has dropped in recent years. Yet, it has the structure of Isabella and the style of Abigail. Its double-"a" structure makes it a perfect candidate.
  • Ada (#209)-Ada will almost certainly be among the next wave of revival names thanks to its double-"a" and minimalistic structure.
  • Ariella (#216)-Arianna just left the top 100 and Ariana is declining. Could Ariella be their successor?
  • Amira (#281)-A spelling variation of Amara that's also likely to become popular.
  • Alayah (#351)-This Alaia spelling variant is also rising quickly, jumping nearly 200 spots in 2019.
  • Amora (#353)-Amora mixes Amelia with Nora and Cora as Amara does to Clara. It's also just as likely to became a huge hit over the next decade.
  • Alaya (#392)-This is the third spelling variant on this list with the potential to become a chart-topper.
ECONAMES (Luna, Hazel, Lily, Violet, Stella, Aurora, Willow, Nova, Savannah, Isla, Ruby, Ivy, Autumn):
  • Jade (#104)-Jade was in the top 100 in the early 2000s, but it has since bounced around the 100s. It's headed back into the top 100 now, though. It's a gemstone name, like Ruby.
  • Rose (#115)-Classic Rose is slowly making its way back to the top. It just needs another few years to reach its goal.
  • Iris (#129)-Iris is the name of a purple flower. It has always ranked but it only headed towards the top now. It combines the long "I" sound of Isla and Ivy with the ending of Alice.
  • Eden (#145)-Eden brings to mind the Biblical Garden of Eden. It also tops the charts in Australia and is rising in Britain. Can't the same happen here? I expect this to be in the top 100 because I hear it regularly.
  • Daisy (#164)-With the birth of Daisy Dove, this classic might finally get the complete revival it deserves.
  • Summer (#177)-Summer sounds like an alternative to Autumn and Willow. It also has the Southern charm of Scarlett and Savannah. It, hence, makes sense for it to follow them into the top 100.
  • Ember (#193)-A successor to Amber, Ember connects to fire. It's now in the top 200 and might reach the top before long.
  • Juniper (#195)-Juniper is a long contemporary tree name, like Willow. It has the ending of Harper and Piper as well.
  • June (#201)-Unlike Juniper, June is a simple antique that will most likely be back in the top 100 this decade. It's an eco name because it connects to the summer month of the same name.
  • Olive (#213)-Olivia just reached #1 and Olive rose along with it. Olive is finally heading back towards the top again after wobbling for some time.
  • River (#214)-We love the mid-"v" sound and "er" ending for girls these days. River combines these qualities into one name.
  • Rowan (#229)-Rowan has wobbled a bit in recent years. Yet, it's a two-syllable unisex Irish "r" name, like Riley. This tree name definitely has potential.
  • Magnolia (#240)-This sounds like an antique except that it's only catching on now. It offers a variety of nicknames, from "Maggie" to "Nolie" or even "Nola".
  • Aspen (#253)-This tree name fits in with Willow and has the mid-"p" sound of Harper, Penelope, and Piper.
  • Sage (#280)-This nearly rhymes with Jade. Plus, it is about as likely to hit the top 100 within the following decade.
  • Phoenix (#312)-Phoenix isn't just a place name. It is also the name of a bird that rises from the dead every 500 years.
  • Winter (#327)-Winter combines contemporary seasonal flavor with the old-fashioned nickname "Winnie".
EL- NAMES (Ella, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Ellie, Elena, Eliana):
  • Eliza (#119)-Eliza is already coming back. With Hamilton being on Disney Plus, though, Eliza's comeback might speed up.
  • Elliana (#145)-Eliana is only getting more popular. If Arianna joined Ariana in the top 100, it makes sense for Elliana to do the same to Eliana.
  • Eloise (#151)-Eloise is a French antique that is now more popular than ever before. Perhaps its headed towards the top 100.
  • Elsie (#247)-This Elizabeth diminutive is approaching the top again after a long rest.
THREE-SYLLABLE ENDS-IN-"EE" (Emily, Natalie, Everly, Naomi, Kennedy, Emery):
  • Leilani (#107)-Leilani is about to be the first Hawaiian girls' name to make the top 100. Kai recently made that achievement for boys.
  • Everleigh (#108)-Everly entered the top 100 in 2017. Now Everleigh's bound to follow the same route.
  • Melody (#118)-This retro choice is making an early revival, about to hit the top 100 for the first time.
  • Harmony (#169)-Harmony is a musical name in the key of Harper, Aria, and Piper, like Melody.
  • Rosalie (#208)-Rose is bound to return to the top 100 soon. Elaborate Rosalie was only ever in the top 100 once, but it also has potential.
  • Kehlani (#242)-Once Leilani breaks the top 100, Kehlani will almost certainly follow.
  • Amari (#310)-Amari sounds like a Hawaiian twist on trending Amara.
  • Royalty (#340)-Royalty is rising quickly. This has the same contemporary style and regal connection as Kinsley. It also has the unique double-"y" feature.
  • Kailani (#350)-Kailani sounds almost like Kehlani and is just as likely to become popular.
  • Milani (#360)-Milani sounds like an update to Melanie, which still works today. Yet, it has a Hawaiian twist. It shortens to fast-rising "Millie" as well.
  • Everlee (#377)-After Everly and Everleigh, the third spelling bound to hit the top 100 is Everlee.
Obviously, more names are bound to hit the top 100. These nominees are simply based on current trends. Which of these do you think will hit the top 100?
