Everly

Girls' names starting with "Ev" have always been around. Think classic Evelyn, literary Evangeline, Greek Evadne, elaborate Evelina, and exotic Evolet. Within the last decade came another all-feminine "Ev" name: Everly. 

Everly came from a surname. As with many feminine surname-names, Everly was not in heavy use before the twenty-first century. Perhaps she was not even in consistent use before 2000 despite having its first occurrence in 1944. However, several records popped up for women named Everly born before 1940 on FindaGrave.com. This being said, Everly may have more history than the numbers suggest. The fame of the rock duo, the Everly Brothers, might explain the name's sparing use in the twentieth century. 

Either way, Everly is thoroughly modern. She was not in the top 1000 before 2012. Afterward, Everly shot up the charts. Less than ten years later, Everly is in the top 50. Variant Everleigh joined Everly in the top 100 a few years after the dominant spelling. 

Since she rose dramatically over the last decade, Everly will likely become the Ashley of the 2020s. Plus, according to Nameberry, Everly will also likely bring other "Ever" names up the charts, further dating the name. This being said, parents who want something timeless should skip Everly.

Predicted Top 100 Girls' Names 2022

With the new name data coming out this Friday, it is time to predict the popular names once again.  I will begin with the girls' top 100. There have been few changes last year, but I expect more to happen this year. Here are the names I think will enter the top 100: Eloise -Eloise does not just fit in our era of "el" names, but its kidlit connections also makes this today's Madeline. It rose nearly 30 spots last year to #109, so it will take under 10 spots to make this popular. Iris -Iris is a goddess name in the key of Luna and Aurora and a vintage nature name like Hazel and Ivy. It has also risen 20 spots to #107 last year. Maeve -This has risen from the 170s all the way to the 120s last year under the influence of the television series Sex Education . Rising just 25 more spots will make this popular.
