Trends

  • Nature names remained common (Olive, Pearl, Hazel, Ruby, Myrtle, Florence)
  • Nickname names were dying off (Ollie, Nannie, Mollie, Addie, Katie, Lizzie)
  • Parents started to prefer longer formal names (Beatrice, Dorothy, Marion, Virginia, Eleanor, Marguerite, Evelyn, Lucille)
  • French names took up the list (Blanche, Marie, Josephine, Marguerite, Louise, Lucille, Pauline)
What was the most interesting change from the 1890s?
